HOW DOES NEEM WORK AS AN INSECTICIDE?

Neem is not a simple poison. It does not kill on contact. Neem contains many complex ingredients, one being similar to the hormone an insect produces. The key insecticidal ingredient found in the neem tree is called azadirachtin, a natural occurring substance that is structurally similar to the insect hormone ecdysone.  The insect absorbs this hormone like substance, just like natural hormones. When neem enters into an insects system, it blocks the insects natural hormones from working properly. Azadirachtin interferes with the process of metamorphosis as well as eating, mating, laying eggs, and some forget they can even fly. The insects cycle of life is broken, their numbers decrease, and they slowly vanish. The mere hint of the smell of neem oil is a great repellant and helps to keep those pesky intruders away!

                                                                                  HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?

The properties of Azadirachtin start to biodegrade when exposed to sunlight, so you may need to reapply every few weeks, or as needed for more highly contaminated areas.  We recommend using neem shampoo throughout the summer months when the insect count is in full swing. For extra protection, try our neem misting spray whenever you take your pet on an outing, or a long walk.
